Board changes at Prudential
Prudential plc announced today the appointment of Sir Roger Hurn as Chairman with immediate effect. He succeeds Sir Martin Jacomb, who retired as Chairman and as a director at the conclusion of the Company’s AGM today.
Sir Roger, Chairman of Marconi and Deputy Chairman of Glaxo Wellcome, has been a non-executive director at Prudential since February 2000.
Michael Abrahams has also retired as Deputy Chairman and as a director at the conclusion of the Company’s AGM today.
Sir Roger Hurn (61) Chairman of Marconi, and Deputy Chairman of Glaxo Wellcome (since 1997) and a non-executive of ICI (since 1993).
Prior to this he spent forty years with Smith’s Industries. He became Chief Executive in 1981 and Chairman from 1991-98. He joined Smiths Industries after a two-year engineering apprenticeship at Rolls Royce Motors and spent his early career in the company's international activities.
Sir Roger is also Chairman of the Court of Governors of The Henley Management College. In 1996 he was knighted for services to the engineering industry.
Sir Martin Jacomb has been a director of Prudential since 1994 and was elected Chairman in 1995.
Michael Abrahams has been a director of Prudential since 1984 and Deputy Chairman since 1991.
