Enabling a just and inclusive transition to net zero for every future

Prudential is committed to responsible investment, with a focus on climate change and emerging markets, because many of the markets in which we operate are emerging markets. We have pledged to decarbonise our investment portfolio and become a net zero asset owner by 2050.

In 2022, we launched the Just & Inclusive transition whitepaper which outlines the case for a just and inclusive transition in emerging markets. This approach is a core part of our sustainability strategy and underpins our climate change initiatives in which we prioritise stewardship and financing the transition.

We are committed to playing a role in Financing the Transition and leveraging our influence to mainstream responsible investments in emerging markets. On this front, we have launched three whitepapers to further highlight our methodology, engagement and also demonstrate a case study of how we implement our framework with our asset management arm, Eastspring Investments

Please read our whitepapers below and click HERE to view the investor presentation for Financing the Transition Framework.

Whitepaper

Prudential’s Financing the Transition Framework

Prudential aims to invest more in the climate transition and this paper shares the approach we have developed. Our framework defines different categories of investments which can contribute towards Financing the Transition. Our investment approach is high level and principles-based so that so that it can be applied across asset managers and asset classes.

Whitepaper

Eastspring-Prudential Framework for Investing in Climate Transition in the Capital Markets

In collaboration with Eastspring, our asset management arm, this paper highlights opportunities and challenges in transition financing, and illustrates a practical fund investment strategy approach example that aims to outline how to construct a capital markets climate transition portfolio.

Whitepaper

Powering Change: unleashing stewardship as an asset owner for a just and inclusive transition

Prudential emphasises engagement over divestment whenever possible. This paper highlights the challenges and opportunities of doing engagement, with a particular focus on emerging markets. It also explains Prudential’s engagement approach, as engagement is a key tool within Prudential’s Responsible Investment approach and an important lever to achieve net zero in emerging markets.
