Prudential plc has won International Financing Review’s (IFR) Asia-Pacific Secondary Equity Issue Award for its international placing and Hong Kong public offer. The offer raised approximately HK$18.5 billion or US$2.4 billion on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in October 2021. IFR is a leading source of fixed income, capital markets and investment banking news, analysis and commentary. On announcing the award, IFR highlighted that Prudential “set a precedent for Hong Kong retail investors to participate in a share placement and reinforced the city’s status as a major international financial centre”. IFR also described the issuance as “a unique offering structure with a Hong Kong public offer and preferential offering to employees and agents in the city.” The offering structure aimed to “maximise the allocation to Asian investors and increase its Hong Kong counter’s liquidity.” Mike Wells, Group Chief Executive of Prudential plc, said “I’m incredibly proud that we have won this award. The team pioneered a unique structure to meet our strategic objectives, and this award is testament to that. “The equity raise was the next step in our development as a business focused entirely on Asia and Africa. It enhanced our financial flexibility in light of the immense opportunities ahead of us as a business positioned in high growth markets. A big thank you to our employees and advisors who worked exceptionally hard to help us structure and successfully execute this important transaction.”
