Prudence Foundation and the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing partner to advance longevity and support the China and UK silver economy

05-06-2026

5 June 2026, Hong Kong - Prudence Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Prudential plc (“Prudential”), and the UK National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA), signed a partnership during the UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper's visit to China to support knowledge exchange and to pilot UK ageing innovations in one of the world’s fastest-growing silver economies.

Based on NICA’s “City of Longevity” framework, Healthy Ageing Hubs under the new “AI Wellness Project” will bring UK innovations into China and provide free support to local communities, creating opportunities for British solutions to meet the needs of China’s growing silver economy.

These hubs will help create urban environments that support mobility, healthier lifestyle choices and stronger community connection. The hubs will be established across China, including in Beijing, bringing British innovation and medical technologies to help strengthen healthy longevity support for ageing communities.

Insights and technologies developed through the partnership will deliver benefits across both the UK and China, supporting older people to live healthier and more fulfilling lives.  The partnership will also enable NICA to gather best practice at scale and share insights in the UK, supporting older people in Britain to live healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Prudential, the leading Asia and Africa insurer and asset manager, listed in both London and Hong Kong, helps provide financial security to millions of families. In China, Prudential has been operating through CITIC-Prudential Life (CPL), its 50/50 joint venture with CITIC, since 2000. Working alongside Prudence Foundation, this new partnership builds on the longstanding relationship between the UK and China, and strengthens collaboration as both countries respond to the opportunities and challenges of ageing societies.

The partnership builds on the UK’s trade relationship with China, which is already worth over £100 billion a year. It forms part of the UK’s consistent, long-term and strategic approach to its relationship with China, rooted in UK and global interests.

Peter Wilson, British Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, shared: “British life science expertise is in demand in China. We are proud to have helped NICA and Prudential to engage with China’s growing healthcare market. Initiatives like ‘City of Longevity Beijing’ will create growth opportunities for British businesses and reinforce the UK’s reputation as a world leader in health innovation.”

The hubs will create opportunities for UK companies and organisations to engage with communities in China, test and localise their innovations, and build strategic partnerships in a rapidly growing sector.

Angel Ng, Regional CEO of Greater China, Prudential plc, said: “At Prudential, we are committed to advancing health, protection and financial well-being, while continuously exploring how to better integrate technology, healthcare and insurance to meet evolving societal needs. This partnership reflects such commitment and our belief that innovation and cross-border collaboration can drive meaningful impact in addressing the challenges of ageing.”
