My Prudential RideLondon, the virtual version of the annual festival of cycling, concluded on 23 August 2020. More than 10,000 people signed up to take on a range of challenges, on a variety of wheels including bicycles, tandems, Brompton bikes, roller skates, scooters and skateboards. Rides were registered up and down the country and across the world, with participants riding from as far afield as the United States, Brazil, Kenya, Japan and Australia, and more than £3m was raised for charity.
The virtual event was created as a substitute for this year’s Prudential RideLondon, which was scheduled to be held on the streets of London and Surrey on 15 and 16 August before being cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prudential RideLondon first took place in 2013. Since then, it has become the world’s greatest festival of cycling and has been praised for inspiring tens of thousands of people to take up the sport. In January 2020, we announced that the event has raised a total of more than £77 million for thousands of charities.
