Prudential joins hands with MyanCare to provide free digital healthcare access to thousands of families

Industry-first initiative sees Prudential Myanmar bring its “We DO Care” ethos to Myanmar

Yangon, Myanmar, 17 January 2020 – Prudential Myanmar Life Insurance Ltd. (“Prudential Myanmar”), the wholly-owned business unit of Prudential Corporation Asia, a leading life insurer in Asia, and MyanCare, a pioneering telemedicine company, today announced a first-of-its kind initiative in Myanmar that marks the beginning of an exclusive digital-led strategic collaboration to improve healthcare access for people across the country. Through the ‘PRUCare’ programme, Prudential Myanmar will provide complimentary healthcare consultation to 5,000 families in Myanmar facilitated through the MyanCare mobile application for one year.

As a special gesture to recognise and appreciate the efforts of individuals that play a crucial role in helping build the foundation of Myanmar’s society, the PRUCare programme will identify 5,000 such persons across the country, such as teachers, nurses, social workers, security personnel and janitors, and provide them and their families with unlimited free voice and video healthcare consultations facilitated through the MyanCare mobile application for one year. The programme will be rolled out in phases across 2020.

Using the MyanCare mobile application, these 5,000 users can seamlessly set up appointments for themselves and their family members when the need arises to consult with any of the general practitioners listed in the MyanCare app. Prudential Myanmar will cover all service fees related to the consultations booked and conducted on the MyanCare app.

Mr. Asit Rath, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Myanmar, said, “Prudential Myanmar is committed to improving healthcare access for people in Myanmar by leveraging innovative technology solutions. PRUCare, our first initiative with MyanCare, will allow us to recognise people across the country who work tirelessly to support our society and communities. To reduce their stress and financial pressure of seeking medical consultations for themselves or their family members, we will provide quality healthcare consultations at the click of a button and fully cover the related fees for a one-year period.”

“This is our first significant milestone that supports our vision of helping people in Myanmar protect their health and grow their wealth and underscores our “We DO Care” spirit. While the current programme with MyanCare will cater to 5,000 families, we aim to extend this initiative to more families across the country in the years to come. Prudential Myanmar is excited to partner with MyanCare and we look forward to launching many more innovative offerings jointly in the coming months and years ahead,” added Mr. Asit Rath.

U Zaw Min Tun, CEO of MyanCare, said, “MyanCare is proud to collaborate with Prudential, a leading life insurer in Asia, to extend the use of the MyanCare mobile application to more people across Myanmar. The imbalance of supply of healthcare services and workload demand has been a major pain point in Myanmar. As many live far away from adequate healthcare services, they hesitate to meet with doctors due to financial, transportation and time factors and only visit the hospital when they have entered the late stages of the illness and their symptoms worsen. Meanwhile, many general practitioners who receive fewer patient visits face limitations in providing healthcare services. Together with Prudential Myanmar, we are trying to change this, by encouraging people to seek medical help with the use of MyanCare.”

Further updates about the PRUCare programme will be shared in the coming weeks on the Facebook pages of Prudential Myanmar and MyanCare.

About MyanCare

Established in February 2018, MyanCare is a telemedicine company and a pioneer of remote healthcare consultation services. The vision of the company is to provide healthcare consulting services for the general public in a convenient, easily accessible and cost-efficient way.

MyanCare’s telemedicine mobile application platform, which features multiple languages to support people of all ethnic backgrounds and now serves more than 81,000 users, serves as a bridge between doctors and patients in Myanmar. The mobile app allows customers (patients) to identify and set up appointments to seek voice, video or face-to-face consultations with preferred doctors. This means that patients from across Myanmar can receive access to doctors and specialists using phone and digital channels with just a few taps on their phone, instead of only relying on in-person consultations.

Meanwhile, doctors can use the MyanCare application to easily search a patient’s health records and treatment history, as well as to publish and manage their consultation timings.

For patients who have to travel from far-off areas for in-person consultations at major hospitals or specialist clinics in the city, they can use MyanCare to be assured of having time with the doctor according to the appointment booking, and they avoid making unnecessary trips or long waiting times at the clinic.

All patients’ electronic medical records are stored safely in MyanCare’s database and can be accessed or referenced at anytime, anywhere. The MyanCare application is free to download via Google Play store or the Apple store. For more information, please visit the MyanCare website and Facebook page.
