Prudential proud to once again be included in Bloomberg Gender Equality Index

Prudential plc (Prudential) has today been included in the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index (GEI) for the second year running. The GEI is a modified market capitalisation-weighted index that aims to track the performance of public companies committed to transparency in gender-data reporting.

The GEI framework aims to capture social data across five areas of the company: Female leadership & talent pipeline; Equal pay & gender pay parity; Inclusive culture; Anti-sexual harassment policies; and, Pro-women brand.

Developing and nurturing an inclusive culture at Prudential is fundamental to the company’s values. The Group was recognised for its progress on gender pay equity, progress in women representation in leadership and the introduction of an Anti-Harassment and Discrimination Policy last year.

Shriti Vadera, Chair of Prudential, said: “We are proud of the efforts across the organisation that have led to this achievement. Seeing tangible progress in diversity and inclusion across our organisation is a real demonstration of our commitment and our values.

“We have also made a concerted effort to improve diversity of experience and thinking at Board level, as evidenced in the appointments we have made in the last year.  Our new members - Chua Sock Koong, Ming Lu, Jeanette Wong and George Sartorel - have in common a depth of operational expertise from our key Asia markets alongside their diverse backgrounds and experiences, and we are benefiting already from their inclusion on the Board.”

Prudential’s submission to the Parker Review also reflected the company’s effort to improve diversity at Board level.

Additionally, Prudential has continued to drive inclusivity in a number of other ways.

In 2020, the company formed the Global Diversity & Inclusion Council to empower employees and create a sense of belonging by respecting and appreciating differences.  Through aligning with its purpose To help people get the most out of life, everyone continuing to work to create a culture in which diversity is celebrated and inclusion assured, for colleagues, customers and partners.

Progress continued in 2021, with a focus on hiring processes, succession and development. Prudential is committed to drive enduring  diversity  in this area in the coming years. By widening its strategic sourcing for senior management team hires, talent is being attracted from industries beyond insurance and financial services.

The Group Talent Sponsorship Programme serves as a way to continue to ensure  diverse representation in our leadership. Through Sponsorship, Prudential has key decision makers in the organisation advocate for the promotion of  talent from under-represented  social and demographic groups. The Programme membership in 2021 consisted of  people from diverse back grounds in digital, marketing and sharia as well as provided a forum for accelerating talent from a number of our markets. 2022 will see this program expand further.

Prudential believes through participating in these external benchmarking exercises, it can continue to drive progress internally. It is one of the 173 companies who took part in the Workforce Disclosure Initiative 2021, leading the way on transparency around workforce issues. 2021 was the fourth year the company has taken part in the Workforce Disclosure Initiative @WDIwork. Prudential is proud to be transparent on workforce issues, and our upcoming Annual Report and Account (including our ESG report) will further highlight areas of progress and activity.1
