Paul Manduca to be next Chairman of TheCityUK's Advisory Council

TheCityUK have issued the following news release.

TheCityUK is delighted to announce the appointments of John McFarlane OBE as its new Chairman of the Board and Paul Manduca as Chairman of its Advisory Council (AC). John will succeed Sir Gerry Grimstone during TheCityUK’s AGM on 16 September 2015. Sir Gerry will also stand down from his temporary role as Chairman of the Advisory Council at the same time, to be succeeded by Paul.

John will lead TheCityUK’s Board and work with its executive team, led by Chris Cummings, to progress the work of the organisation in enhancing the competitiveness of the UK as a leading international financial centre and promoting the value of the UK-based financial and related professional services industry in the UK, across Europe and internationally. John is Chairman of Barclays plc.

Paul will lead the members of TheCityUK’s Advisory Council to oversee the work of the organisation and support the Board to ensure delivery on its strategy. Paul will continue his role as Chairman of Prudential plc.

Sir Gerry said, “In a relatively short time, TheCityUK has firmly established itself as the respected and recognised voice of the industry. We have considerably expanded our international work into important markets such as India and China, broadened our scope of work across Europe, and been a driving force in demonstrating the economic importance of the industry here in the UK. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Chairman of TheCityUK Board and in the temporary position as Chairman of the Advisory Council and wish John, Paul and the team all the very best.”

John McFarlane commented, “I am very pleased to be taking up the role of Chairman of TheCityUK at such a pivotal time for UK-based financial and related professional services. Our major priority will be to advance the interests and competitiveness of our sector domestically and internationally, and enlist government support for such a strategic area for the UK. Gerry has done a tremendous job in leading TheCityUK and I look forward to working with Chris and the team on the next phase of its journey.”

Paul Manduca said, “I have been a member of TheCityUK’s Advisory Council for the past three years and been impressed both by how the organisation has established a credible voice in its representation of the entire financial and related professional services industry and by the strong relationships it has forged here in the UK, across the rest of the EU and internationally. It is a great honour to take up the role of Chairman of the Advisory Council and I look forward to working with John, Chris and the team to champion our industry and progress the agendas that matter to customers, employees and wider society.”

Chris Cummings, Chief Executive, TheCityUK, added, “It says a lot about TheCityUK that we are able to attract Chairmen of such great stature. John and Paul are such respected industry figures and collectively their extensive experience will undoubtedly bring great benefits to TheCityUK. We look forward to working with them to represent our members on the issues that really matter and drive the competitiveness of the industry to ensure it can support job creation, long-term investment and economic growth right across the UK.”
